About the Producer

In Spessa di Cividale, in the Colli Orientali del Friuli, during the early post-war years, the Zorzettig family was one of the few brave ones to invest resources and efforts in the land, the hills of Spessa, characterised by a unique microclimate and terroir.

Over the years, the company's expansion also involved the house that is now located inside the company headquarters, a magical place that has become an agritourism resort that breathes centuries of rural history.

The property extends over about 120 hectares of vineyards, producing about 800,000 bottles a year, 50% of which are destined for export, and a growing penetration in various markets, from Asia to the United States, from Australia to northern Europe. The company is now firmly in the hands of Annalisa Zorzettig.

Annalisa's daughter Veronica has also joined the company, placing her precision, management skills and sincere sensitivity to environmental sustainability and the green world to good use.

All the wines are DOC Friuli Colli Orientali and all are vinified in purity. There are autochthonous Friulian varieties and some allochthonous varieties such as Pinot Bianco and Sauvignon Bianco, which express themselves at the highest level on the slopes around Cividale. The vineyards for this production have been carefully selected from among the oldest and most promising on the estate and all the grapes are harvested by hand.

The wines of the Myò Vigneti di Spessa selection are an expression of the growth path that Annalisa Zorzettig has been resolutely pursuing for several years with the help of Friulian oenologists Fabio Coser and Saverio di Giacomo.

The origin of the MYÒ brand lies in an ancient Friulian ballad from the 14th century, where a young man in love compares his woman to his land, both loved more than anything else. MYÒ wants to be a direct reference to the Friulian land, to its traditions and rituals.

Vineyard

Two vineyards, situated at 220 metres above sea level, are utilized for the production of this wine:

COLLI DI SPESSA - Sant'Anna

Mainly autochthonous white and red grapes are found here. The south-southeast exposure of its hills makes the Picolit of the Colli Orientali del Friuli the absolute protagonist. Ribolla gialla and Friulano of the Myò Vigneti di Spessa line are born here.

COLLI NOVACUZZO – Prepotto

These vineyards, located in the municipality of Prepotto in the proximity of the Judrio River, represent the ideal terroir for native red grape varieties. Its climate, mitigated by the protection of the Giulie Prealps and the nearby Adriatic Sea, and characterized by considerable temperature variations, enrich the aromatic profile of the grapes. Schioppettino stands out, followed by 'powerful' and 'rustic' wines that express this land: Refosco dal peduncolo rosso and Pignolo.

The soils consist mainly of clay and “Ponca”, a characteristic stratification of sandstone marl of Eocene origin. The training system is double-arched cane with a density of 5,000 vines/ha and producing 7 tons/ha.

Vinification

Harvest takes place in the middle of September and the grape bunches are carefully selected by hand. The grapes are cold-macerated for 12 hours and fermentation takes place in stainless tanks. All stages are conducted under strict temperature control.

Ageing

The wine is kept in contact with the lees for 6 months in 90% stainless steel and 10 small oak barrels, while being regularly stirred up. It is then bottled and allowed to settle and refine for 6 months in the bottle.

Tasting Notes

Straw yellow colour. On the nose, aromas of acacia, cooked apple, lemon, honey and aniseed. On the palate, medium-to full-bodied, zesty with an oily texture and bright acidity, spiced and flavourful, reminiscent of white-pulp fruit and white currants.

Analysis

13.5% alcohol vol.

Food Suggestions

Great match for wild asparagus or truffle risotto, sea shells, oysters with a drop of extra virgin olive oil, fish and white meats.

Serving temperature: 12°C.

Cellar

If stored well, its gains character over time and can age for up to 10 years maintaining all its balance and varietal characteristics.
