About the Producer

Established amidst the enchanting Belle Époque era in 1902, when Giacomo Battista Tommasi wed Augusta, the family embarked on a journey that would shape Verona's winemaking landscape. Transitioning from mere cultivation to envisioning wine as a refined product for celebrations, Giacomo laid the foundation for their legacy in Valpolicella.

Enduring two world wars, Giacomo's sons, Sergio, Franco, Ezio, and Dario, persevered, fostering growth in Pedemonte. In the post-war boom, they spearheaded a modern expansion, acquiring vineyards across Valpolicella Classica and Veronese denominations like Lugana, Bardolino, Custoza, and Soave.

In the 1970s, their vision materialized with the establishment of a contemporary winery and offices, marking a pivotal moment in their evolution. With unwavering dedication to vineyard ownership and quality control, the company endeavoured to oversee every aspect from vine to table under the Tommasi label.

Assuming leadership roles in 1997 as the fourth generation, they propelled the winery's growth forward. Strategic acquisitions, including the expansive Tenuta Prunea and esteemed vineyards like Conca d'Oro and La Groletta in 2000, fortified their presence in Valpolicella. Beyond Veneto, they expanded around Lake Garda and ventured into new territories, perpetuating their commitment to excellence.

Today, guided by their rich heritage and a relentless pursuit of quality, Tommasi Wine Producers remains a beacon of Italian winemaking, blending tradition with innovation to craft wines that captivate palates worldwide.

Vineyard

Vineyards in Sirmione, meticulously managed using the Guyot method and planted with high density, offer distinct terroirs. One parcel features calcareous soil, stratified with clay, while the other two boast sandy compositions rich in silt. Grapes sourced from the clay soil impart body and structure, while those from the sandy soil contribute aromatic elegance.

Vinification

Lugana Le Fornaci undergoes meticulous harvesting of the grapes, followed by slow fermentation at controlled temperatures (14°C to 18°C) and natural sedimentation for clarification.

Ageing

Aging for approximately three months on lees and fine yeasts precedes further maturation in stainless steel tanks.

Tasting Notes

Light, glittering straw yellow. Exotic sweet notes of candied and citrus fruits on the nose, with fine, elegant minerality. On the palate Tommasi Lugana Le Fornaci displays diffuse, expressive subtlety and a characteristically authoritative, warm and persistent breadth of flavours.

Analysis

12.5% alcohol vol.

Food Suggestions

Ideal as an aperitif or paired with appetizers and finger food, Tommasi Lugana Le Fornaci complements dishes featuring lake and sea fish. It also pairs excellently with savoury first courses, risotto, delicate meats, and fresh cheeses.

Serving temperature: 10-12°C.

Cellar

Ready to drink now and, if properly cellared, Tommasi Lugana Le Fornaci will retain its best characteristics for 2-3 years.
