Damaschino

Damaschino is a rare Sicilian grape variety that has lost ground in recent years to Catarratto and Grillo, the island's key white grape varieties. Traditionally, Damaschino has been used in the production of fortified Marsala wines, but it has also commonly been found blended with other white grape varieties on the island to make dry white wines – most commonly Catarratto, with which it makes a straw-colored, fruity wine.

Synonyms include: Damaskino.

Food matches for Damaschino include:

  • Tomato and caper salad (dry)
  • Pasta with clams and fresh herbs (dry)
  • Pistachio tart (fortified)
