About the Producer

Francesco and Michele Montresor head the Ottella wine farm, in the hamlet of Ottella, near the town of Peschiera del Garda. However, its most famous vineyards are situated in San Benedetto di Lugana. Ottella deserves a first class place within the Lugana designation thanks to its stylistic approach to wines, centred on refined tonalities, intense aromatic characteristics and pervasive minerality.

Francesco and Michele’s philosophy is to create wines that have an exact nose to palate correspondence; that are fine and elegant in their evolution and tingling with mineral sensations, ultimately delivering a satisfying mouth feeling that is enhanced by the savoury and spicy sensation of clay.

Vineyard

The grapes come exclusively from hillside vineyards owned by Ottella around San Benedetto di Lugana. Spurred cordon; yield around 9,000 kg. of grapes per hectare, equivalent to 5,700 litres of wine or 63% juice yield. The harvest and the selection of grapes are carried out strictly by hand, the grapes are placed in small 17 kg cases.


Vinification

Fermentation takes place partly in stainless steel tanks and partly in oak barrels with “delestage” (two-step “rack-and-return” process in which fermenting red wine juice is separated from the grape solids by racking and then returned to the fermenting vat to re-soak the solids) and punching down of the cap.


Ageing

Malolactic fermentation and ageing for 6 months follows in barrels.


Tasting Notes

Beautiful concentration of ruby red and garnet. Well-developed and broad on the nose with pleasing notes of ripe red-berry fruit; intriguing and stimulating overtones. Classy correspondence between nose and palate, soft, enveloping, with delicate texture and sophisticated tannins which endow the wine with a captivating fullness, while making it slide with velvety grace on the palate.

Food Suggestions

Perfectly capable of matching the most flavoursome meats, it is especially enjoyable with elaborate first courses and savoury cheeses.
