Custoza is a dry white blend of Trebbiano, Tocai, Cortese, Chardonnay and Garganega grapes from Lake Garda near Verona. Easy drinking wine for any occasion. Soft with lingering yellow plum aftertaste.
Originating in 1964 at Lazise, on the banks of Lake Garda, the House of Lamberti was the first to propose a new, modern identity for the wines of Veneto and, in particular, those of Verona. Typical examples are Bardolino and Valpolicella, as well as Amarone. The white wines include Lugana, Soave and Custoza.
30% Trebbiano di Toscana
25% Tocai Friulano (Trebbianello)
20% Garganega
15% Chardonnay
10% Cortese
Vineyards situated mainly in the commune of Sona and Custoza, to the south-west of Verona. The vineyards are characterised by a high density of vines per hectare and a low yield of grapes. The hilly soils are characterized by morainal sediments deposited by glacial ice, mixed with gravel, clay and lime. The vines are trained on a double trellis system.
The grapes are picked between the end of September and mid-October. They are vinified separately to enhance in each the special characteristics that will find full expression in the final wine. From the Cortese it extracts the aroma, from the Chardonnay, partly fermented in barriques, the colour and structure.
The various fermented batches are blended together and the new wine is refined in stainless steel tanks before being sterile-filtered.
Bright pale yellow in colour, it has a distinctive bouquet; the flavour is dry and soft but elegant and lively. Pleasant overtones of almond and hints of field flowers and moss. Lingering aftertaste of ripe yellow plum.
12.5% alcohol vol.
Ideal as an aperitif. Serve with cold hors d’ouvres, delicate first courses, salads, eggs and seafood. Serving temperature: 10-12°C.
Custoza is best kept 1-2 years in bottles stored horizontally in cool, dark conditions.
